Consistency Analysis

This analysis will calculate consistency of word units, where a word unit is defined as a group of two or more productions with identical targets. (A word must be repeated more than once to be considered.)

A table for each word unit in a each selected session will be produced and added to one of four categories:
  1. Accurate and consistent
  2. Accurate and inconsistent (only one production needs to be accurate)
  3. Inaccurate and consistent
  4. Inaccurate and inconsistent
A summary for each session will be calculated with summary columns A&C,A&I,I&C,I&I coresponding to the aformentioned categories.
Each per-target row also reports two additional measures of phonetic variability:
  • # Types — the number of distinct phonetic productions (IPA Actual forms) recorded for that target word. Productions are compared after the configured diacritic options have been applied, so enabling Diacritic Options may collapse forms that differ only by diacritics.
  • TTR (%) — the type-token ratio expressed as a percentage: # Types ÷ Count × 100. A target produced identically every time has a TTR of 100%; a target with five distinct productions out of five tokens also has a TTR of 100%, while three distinct productions out of five tokens gives 60%.
The bottom row of each session's table reports the unweighted mean of # Types and TTR (%) across targets, and the Speaker Summary table reports the same averages as Avg # Types and Avg TTR (%) per session.

The report output is organized per speaker, beginning with a Speaker Summary table (one row per session). Each session then contributes a Session Summary table followed by four category sections — Accurate & Consistent, Inaccurate & Consistent, Accurate & Inconsistent, and Inaccurate & Inconsistent — each holding the per-target tables for the word units in that category, listed alphabetically by Orthography.

Data Preparation

Session data is queried by word for each aligned Orthography, IPA Target and IPA Actual triple. IPA transcriptions should be syllabified and aligned.
