Stress Match

The Stress Match analysis compares the stress pattern of each aligned IPA Target and IPA Actual word and reports the percentage that match.

Use this analysis to compare the placement of primary stress, secondary stress, and unstressed syllables without comparing the phones themselves.

Parameters

How stress is compared

Phon derives one stress code for each syllable: 1 for primary stress, 2 for secondary stress, and U for unstressed. A word is a match only when its complete target and actual stress patterns are equal.

Word Count is the number of non-truncated aligned word pairs. Match % and Mismatch % divide their respective counts by Word Count and multiply by 100.

Report output

The report contains a global Summary, a Readme, and one section per participant:

Stress Patterns Each target/actual stress-pattern pair, whether it matched, its total frequency, and its percentage of the participant's results.
Stress Matches and Stress Mismatches Token listings with source-record information, aligned IPA words, added tier data, word index, target and actual stress patterns, and the comparison result.
