Session Media

Each session in Phon can have an associated media file (audio or video) for transcription and analysis. The media file is shown in the Media field of the transcript header.

Segment Playback

When a record has a defined segment (time range), the media for that segment can be played using:

  • The Play segment button in the record toolbar
  • Cmd+Y — Play current record segment
  • Cmd+L — Play current speaker turn
  • Cmd+Shift+Y — Play adjacency sequence
  • Cmd+Alt+Y — Play custom segment

The Play segment dropdown provides additional options including export actions.

Assign Media

To assign or change the session media file, use Session > Select media... or click the Media value in the transcript header.

Phon searches for media files in the following order:

  1. Corpus media folder (if assigned)
  2. Project media folder
  3. Global media folders (see Media Folders)

Export Segments

Media segments can be exported as audio files using the Export segment option from the Play segment dropdown menu in the record toolbar, or from the Speech Analysis and Timeline views.
