Tier Management
The Tier Management view allows you to configure the tiers displayed in the transcript. Each tier is shown as a card with its name, type code, and configuration options.
Each tier card shows the tier name and its type code in parentheses (e.g.,
*<ID> for Orthography, %mod for IPA Target,
%pho for IPA Actual, %xseg for Segment).
Tier Options
Each tier card provides the following options:
- Visible — Toggle tier visibility in the transcript. Hidden tiers are not displayed but their data is preserved.
- Locked — Prevent editing of the tier. Locked tiers are displayed but cannot be modified.
- Blind — Enable blind transcription mode for the tier. When enabled, blind transcribers see their own transcription (or the validated content in italics if they have not yet transcribed). When toggling a tier to blind, Phon offers to copy existing values into a transcriber's blind transcription. All tiers except Segment can be blind. See Blind Transcription for details.
- Edit (pencil icon) — Edit tier properties such as name and type.
Tiers can be reordered by dragging the tier cards up or down using the arrow controls. The order in the Tier Management view determines the display order in the transcript.
Add Tier
Click the + button at the top of the Tier Management view to add a new custom tier. Enter the tier name and select the tier type in the dialog that appears.
